Adele: One and Only – Magazine – Vogue

A great article from Vogue interviewing Adele in December 2011, before she won 6 Grammys.

“ ‘Chasing Pavements’ came from me running down Oxford Street. I had punched my ex in a pub and then ran away from security. And then I just kept running even though they weren’t chasing me anymore. I was running from something. And I didn’t know what. I was just chasing a pavement. And I was like, Ka-ching! I will get my record-deal money now! And then with ‘Rolling in the Deep,’ there’s a gang phrase in the U.K., roll deep, that basically means having someone have your back so you are never on your own if you come into trouble. It’s a real gangster thing, but I think it’s really beautiful. So I just turned it into ‘Rolling in the Deep.’ ”

Grammy fashion hits, misses and hot messes

HIT: Taylor Swift in Zuhair Murad

Taylor Swift was impeccably dressed and styled. This girl is getting some really good fashion and style advice, or she just has an eye for great pieces.

HIT: Adele in Armani

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Adele’s look for the Grammys. Her hair looks a little lighter than usual and it’s shorter. It’s fresh, much like her return to music. The lipstick and earrings compliment the gorgeous dress. I love long dresses so much, and hers looks glamourous and absolutely perfect for all the Grammys she’s gonna take home!!

Hit: Rihanna in Armani

HOT HOT HOT. Rihanna looked confident and very sexy in the Versace dress she helped design. The plunging neckline shows off her killer abs (holy moly!) Stunning.

Hit: Jessie J in Julien MacDonald

I loved this look immediately when I saw it. It’s shiny, fun and perfect for the Grammys! Jessie J definitely did good at her first Grammy awards.

Miss: Robyn

Robyn’s outfit is very much her. I think the shoes are pretty cool, and the dress is cool too, but not for the Grammys. But to be honest, it looked a lot better on camera than in a photo, because in the photo, her “train” looks a little an unraveled roll of fabulous toilet paper. And the t-shirt top is a little confusing as well. But fuck it, Robyn rocks.

Miss: Katy Perry

The dress is really pretty, but her hair ruins this look. It’s not so much the color, but the poofy updo. Also, the dress is kind of a preview into pastel colors for spring, but it would be better suited in an old Florence and the Machine video than the 2012 Grammys.

Miss: Fergie in Jean-Paul Gaultier

Oh, sweet Fergie Ferg. She always wants so bad to be the wild card fashionista of the night, but she always, always falls short. The silhouette of the lace dress is gorgeous, and the color is simply spectacular. There’s just something off about this outfit. It could be her timid-ish attitude, or her hair and earrings paired with the visible lingerie. Because really, if you’re going to wear this outfit, you better have the fucking personality to pull it off.

Hot Mess: Taraji P. Henson

This is my worst dressed pick. Oh my God. This looks like something straight from a small town prom. The cut and fabric look so bad in photos, I wonder if the dress was better in person. I won’t hold my breath. There are just so many things that are wrong with this dress. She could have look so so so much better. Fire your stylist, now! (And good God, if you don’t have one, get one)

HOT MESS: Nicki Minaj’s Catholic Grammys

Yes, it was daring and it definitely got the people going, but I despised Nikki Minaj’s outfit and Pope date. First of all, it looks like a cape 3 sizes too big for her. Yes, Versace is a genius but good lord, that was more fit for a midnight showing of Lord of the Rings over the Grammys. Also, why Catholic? Is she creeping in on Lady Gaga and Madonna’s affliction for bad catholic girls? I’m ALL FOR exciting and strange Grammy outfits, but this one is just confusing.

Host: LL Cool J

LL Cool J did a fantastic job hosting the Grammys! He was calm, cool and collected. A perfect pick for host. Good job Cool!

Celebrité: Whitney updates and celebrity drug abuse

Whit! Photo via joemygod.blogspot.com

It’s being reported that Whitney Houston was found in the bathtub and that prescription pills were also found. Allegedly, at this point the theory remains that she took a Xanax and either overdosed or drowned. She was supposed to attend Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy party.

Her mother, Cissy Houston and her aunt, singer Dionne Warwick talked to her just 25 minutes before she was pronounced dead. They said they didn’t suspect anything, as they all chatted about Davis’ party and other things.

Celebrities and drug use

We miss you Amy! Photo via amazon.com

I can’t help but wonder who the next celebrity will be to lose their life after a battle with drugs. And yes, I swear everyone’s first thought is Lindsay Lohan. After Amy Winehouse and now Whitney Houston, it will be astonishing if Lindsay Lohan doesn’t try to seriously clean up her act. Sadly, I think she’s too far gone and surrounded by terrible people (her parents and enablers).

However, I won’t judge drug users, because I don’t know what it’s like to be addicted to a dangerous substance. They’ve obviously got their own demons to deal with and surely don’t need another blogger judging them for it (although one wonders if you could ever ‘tough judge’ someone like we can give ‘tough love’. I don’t think it works that way). True addiction is a cold, hard bitch.

Can you even imagine being able to get literally whatever you want, at any moment? Having that much power and money that whatever you want will be yours, and ‘no’ doesn’t exist in surrounding vocabularies. It sounds quite scary to me. Especially if one is lacking a good, stable close-knit circle of family and friends.

In pondering what can be done, I come up blank. These stars seemingly have everything: the latest high fashion, flawless nails, skin, hair and bodies. The mansion with the cars. Their pick of gorgeous men/women to love on. But time and time again they have proven to us that no matter what you physically have, nor the amazing rehab facilities you are sent to, it can’t replace a good head on your shoulders and people who dearly love you, and who you dearly love back.

Maybe Lindsay should be forced to work on Glee. Those kids seem like good, clean fun. They could be a good influence on her! But really, she’d end up getting vegan Lea Michele to eat goat cheese and get kicked off the show. It’s in the cards.

God save the Queen drug-addled celebrities.

Katy Perry re-releasing double platinum album… why???

Did she make this cover herself?! Photo via katyperry.com

Ugh. Nice one, music industry. As if the original album didn’t make enough money, Katy Perry and her money hungry friends are “re-releasing” her double-platinum album Teenage Dream. This is exactly like “re-releasing” Beauty and the Beast in 3-D, so some execs somewhere can make a shit ton of money off of them. Neat!

SHE WANTS YOUR MONEY. Russell Brand isn't taking any of it in the divorce settlement, so she wants more more more with a re-release. Goody! Photo via thedocreport.tumblr.com

I like Katy Perry. I do. T.G.I.F. is mah jam in the car. But this deluxe edition with only 3 extra songs is weird, especially in the day and age of digital downloads. Who needs two copies of the same songs? Really! There will be three extra songs on the “deluxe” version: “E.T.” featuring Kanye West (which is a total rip off of T.A.T.U.’s “All The Things She Said“), an acoustic version of “The One That Got Away” (or, the song she needs to be number one to beat Michael Jackson’s record) and “T.G.I.F. (Last Friday Night) featuring Missy Eliot (ok, I’d pay the 99 cents for this one).

Exactly. Photo via sodahead.com

We all know the music industry is soooo bleak. Adele practically owned 2011 with her album 21, to which nobody could compete against. But really, I don’t know anyone who is that big of a Katy Perry fan to buy practically the same album twice, when you could just buy the 1 song with Missy Eliot (where’ve you been girl!?) that hasn’t been released yet, for 99 cents. I mean, especially for us poor-ish 20 somethings, buying the one song vs copies of the other songs we already have just makes sense.

This is one of those times where the music industry sadly and shockingly hasn’t quite caught up with the times, because nobody buys CDs. And if we do take our time to go to the store and physically buy the CD, it’s for our soul-mate favorite musical artist, not copies of a Katy Perry CD.
