OMG. OH emm effff G.

2012 is shaping up to be a phenomenal year of music. LA Reid tweeted today that new music from FIONA APPLE can be expected this year. Oh please oh please oh please let it be true!!

The instant I saw his tweet, “Criminal” started playing in my head. It almost makes me want to get wine drunk and sing “Tidal” at the top of my lungs. But that would wake my parents up. I’m cool you guys.

Also, she’s just so fucking talented. For real. I know I love me some pop stars, but Fiona is the real shit. She takes time in between albums, for what I don’t know. Maybe she gardens! It makes sense though, that artistic fury takes a while to build up inside of a person. Right, JT?

Pop music has it’s place in our lives, when we wanna get drunk and dance like straight up hussies. But there’s a time and a place for that. Just like there’s almost another time and another place for us to fall in love with the next Fiona Apple album. FIONA!!!!

What would an angel say, the devil wants to kno-ooooooooow.” DAMN that’s a good line. “Criminal” is so fucking epic.

Music: Lana Del Rey

Lana Del Rey is bursting onto the music scene this year with a hot new song, “Video Games,” and not-so-hot performances on SNL. Although she hasn’t interviewed post-SNL snafu, she did talk with MTV before the performance saying that she doesn’t like live television:

You can’t expect too much from my show,” Del Rey said, explaining that her real fans are probably aware that she’s more of a songwriter and studio musician than performer and that she thinks people who come to see her show are really just there to hear the songs they already like.

Sometimes I feel less nervous than other times,” she added. “I don’t love live television. The only tip I have is just pray and just hope that things work out,” writes Gil Kaufman on mtv.com.

Bad performances happen, especially when you’re first starting out. Her fans are really enthusiastic about her upcoming album, Born to Die, which is set to be released January 31, 2012 in the States. Her 60s-vibe album is a breath of fresh air in a world that unfortunately hasn’t had enough of LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem.”

Now that's some f-ing class and attitude. Photo: via thatgrapejuice.net

Her style is great, and her hair is f-ing gorgeous to the point where it looks like a wig. She needs to share her shine tips like NOW.

Listen to this video. It is another live performance, filmed in a swanky hotel, that is miles above Earth better than her SNL debut.

Mixtape Monday: Shindu

“Out of the dark and into the blue, two boys and a girl from Belgium collide to create Shindu. A refreshing synthpopsensation that embodies the challenge to take music into the dawn of a new era. Shindu dreams up stories to create jaunty yet clever tracks drenched in late 80s electronica and atmospherics.” -Shindu

Get your dance on! SO HOT.

Listen: Treasure Fingers “Crusaders”

Anything referencing 30 Rock is cooler than cool in my book. Check out Treasure Fingers “Crusaders.”

On the fence: Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift

The first time I watched anything dealing with Taylor Swift was a performance of “Should’ve Said No” where she had a costume change and ended her performance under a rain machine. Besides being a little pitchy, that performance rocked and I decided to check out her album.

But then came the Kanye-VMA debacle. It gave the gossip and entertainment mags something more interesting to talk about, you know, other than the Paris Hiltons or whichever socialite was being a general annoyance to the American public. Kanye got way too drunk and interrupted Swift during an acceptance speech for Best Video, which was obviously rude and spawned a year of never ending internet memes.

The Evidence

What I thought was unsavory about Swift during this debacle was that West’s mother Donda died less than two years earlier, and Kanye hadn’t stopped working since then. Cue, spiraling out of control. He issued countless apologies on countless crappy tv shows, all of which Swift half-assedly accepted, as she looked as thought she enjoyed the free press more. 0

Swifty rips her shitty, metrosexual ex-boyfriends new b-holes after they dump her via text message. +2

Her backup bands have the worst hair imaginable. But that’s not her fault. 0

She is always writing songs about having a broken heart, and is starting to sound like a broken record-1

Great hair. +1

She has great, classy style, and a new spread and cover for Vogue. +1

She covers a new song relevant to the city she is touring in. Way cool. +1

Her surprise face. -1

The Score

Taylor comes out with a +3 advantage. Her style and penchant for embarrassing guys who totally deserve it is way awesome. However, she really should do something about those backup dancers’ hair. Yuck.

Listen: St. Vincent

I don’t know when or why or how I began listening to St. Vincent, but a blessed moment it was. Annie Clark is St. Vincent, and if you haven’t met her quite yet, she is a fabulous and very talented woman.

Multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, pretty gal.

I started with her second disc, Actor, which is phenomenal. “The Neighbors” and “The Strangers” are my all time favorite St. Vincent songs, and they come off this album. It’s worth a Pandora or Grooveshark stream, and definitely worth a purchase.

Check out St. Vincent albums here

Her first album is titled Marry Me, which was reported as being named after the Arrested Development story arc when Maeby becomes a movie producer, and uses the catch phrase ‘marry me’ with all the Hollywood execs. If that doesn’t win you over, then you sir are a mouthful.

Her latest album, Strange Mercy is an amazing, creative collection of songs ripe with guitar shreds and sweet tunes. My favorite songs on this album are “Northern Lights” and “Cruel”.

St. V, to my utmost jubilation, is going on tour!!! 2012 is shaping up to be tremendous already. I hope she’s coming to your city.
