Fashion: Animal Circles

Animal Circles.

This t-shirt design called “Animal Circles” is my best friend’s independent-designer-boyfriend’s design. For some reason, the little animals remind me of mahjong tile pictures, if the pictures were all of disturbingly cute chubby animals that you just wanna squeeze a little too hard. If you like this design, vote for it at threadless.com so people can revel in its beauty right on their own chests.

Besides, It could be the perfect Valentine’s Day gift for your boyfriend. Because men love t-shirts and everyone hates those fucking worthless teddy bears in a bag.

Fashion: Jean-Paul Gaultier and Amy Winehouse

The death of amazing singer Amy Winehouse left us all with a little hole in our soul parts. However, her memory will be honored in Jean-Paul Gaultier’s SS 2012 show, as she is the muse who inspired his new line.

The hair is styled like her signature beehive (tear!) and the clothes mimic Amy’s legendary 50s and 60s style.

Gaultier comments on Amy’s inspiring style, saying that “What she stands for above all, is uniqueness. Both in music and the way she dressed, she mixed a great many influences.”

Fashion: Toy bag

20120125-000927.jpg

I’m obsessed with this bag. I’m naming it Toy Bag, because I can’t find it anywhere on the Internet. It’s a little bigger than an iPhone! It reminds me of those toy purses we had as little girls that we would put stickers and toy lipstick in. I absolutely had to buy it, if only for the sake of nostalgia. And so I can pretend to be Cher Horowitz again. Spring is going to be colorful and wonderful.

It’s made from shiny, fabulous plastic so, you know, it can wipe clean when we spill our juice boxes (cocktails).

You can find the Toy Bag at Target in blue, pink and orange for $9.99.

Dating: Alexa Chung on Chelsea Lately

Alexa Chung was a recent guest on Chelsea Lately, promoting her new show ’24 hour Catwalk’. Ross Mathews, who is doing a great job of host-replacement btw, revealed that Alexa Chung is on the prowl. She jokingly admitted to accepting dates over Twitter. Oh boy.

The stylish Chung, and former MTV host (I liked ‘It’s On’, damn you MTV!) used to date Arctic Monkeys front man Alex Turner. But they broke up in July 2011. Whatevs, frontmen seem like a lot of work anyways. Divas!

This tweet, surely to be one of many, is a charming peek into the world of dating through the internet:

How wonderful! Dating rocks.

Chung’s new show, 24 Hour Catwalk, looks interesting. I don’t normally watch reality or competition shows, but I might actually give this one a try. The contestants have 24 hours to make weird shit look fashionable. It sounds exactly like poor, 20 somethings digging through years of fashion mistakes, trying to make something look chic.

Check out obsessive Alexa Chung fashion photos here.

Chelsea is on fire

By the by, Chelsea Handler is blowing the fuck up. Chelsea Lately and After Chelsea on E! are getting better and better. After Chelsea is getting some sick cameos like Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston and Jane Fonda. Plus her show on NBC ‘Are You There, Chelsea?‘ is doing okay I think. I haven’t checked it out yet.

AND Chelsea is in a new movie with Reese Witherspoon called “This Means War” that looks promising. Two hot spies are fighting over Reese Witherspoon, blowing shit up and lots of kissing. That’s like my dream. Jealz!

Fashion: São Paulo Fashion Week

São Paulo Fashion Week is in full force. Check out some pics and updates from Brazilian blog Garotas Estúpidas!!!

As the seasons are inverted south of the equator, South American fashion shows, like SPFW, are previewing winter 2012 fashion lines now.

Sneakers are very popular in many South American countries like Chile and Brazil. These hybrid sneakers from francesa Isabel Marant have wedge heels and are surely making waves in SA. How cool is that?!

Fashion: Fashion’s Night Out set for Sept. 6

Yay! Fashion’s Night Out 2012 has been set for Sept. 6.

Fashion’s Night Out started in 2009 and was a joint initiative between Vogue and the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). Each year FNO gets bigger and more global: 2010 brought participation in 16 different countries around the world, including South Korea, France, Brazil and Turkey, among others.

There are even events online during FNO, which is great for everyone not residing in a fabulous big city. Maybe FNO will become a fashionista vacay to his or her nearest FNO city. FASHION ROAD TRIP!

Let’s hope this year brings even more events, online and real life, as well as more deals from our favorite designers. Now the wait begins to see which stores will be opening their doors for one of fashion’s biggest nights.

On the fence: Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift

The first time I watched anything dealing with Taylor Swift was a performance of “Should’ve Said No” where she had a costume change and ended her performance under a rain machine. Besides being a little pitchy, that performance rocked and I decided to check out her album.

But then came the Kanye-VMA debacle. It gave the gossip and entertainment mags something more interesting to talk about, you know, other than the Paris Hiltons or whichever socialite was being a general annoyance to the American public. Kanye got way too drunk and interrupted Swift during an acceptance speech for Best Video, which was obviously rude and spawned a year of never ending internet memes.

The Evidence

What I thought was unsavory about Swift during this debacle was that West’s mother Donda died less than two years earlier, and Kanye hadn’t stopped working since then. Cue, spiraling out of control. He issued countless apologies on countless crappy tv shows, all of which Swift half-assedly accepted, as she looked as thought she enjoyed the free press more. 0

Swifty rips her shitty, metrosexual ex-boyfriends new b-holes after they dump her via text message. +2

Her backup bands have the worst hair imaginable. But that’s not her fault. 0

She is always writing songs about having a broken heart, and is starting to sound like a broken record-1

Great hair. +1

She has great, classy style, and a new spread and cover for Vogue. +1

She covers a new song relevant to the city she is touring in. Way cool. +1

Her surprise face. -1

The Score

Taylor comes out with a +3 advantage. Her style and penchant for embarrassing guys who totally deserve it is way awesome. However, she really should do something about those backup dancers’ hair. Yuck.
