Amazing: Waterproof your cellphone with Liquipel

Waterproof Phone coating, and the future, have arrived.

WHAAAAT!!!! This is every drunk college kids dream. No more late night, bathroom drops in the toilets my friends. No more frat guys dropping your phone into a vat of beer and pee.

Liquipel is a nano coating that covers every part of your cellphone, inside and outside, like a sealant instead of a bulky waterproof cover. They describe it as:

…a revolutionary process that applies a waterproof coating to your electronic devices to protect them in the event of accidental exposure to liquids. It is not visible to the human eye, virtually undetectable and Liquipel will not compromise the look, feel, and performance of your electronics.

Liquipel penetrates the entire device as a whole, including all of the vital components inside and out to provide optimal protection against accidental contact with liquids.

AH-MAZ-ING. Innovative. It costs about $60 to get done to your phone, and you have to send it in to the company. But really, I think that’s $60 well spent over the risk of dropping your phone in a puddle, toilet or some other electronics-threatening body of water.

You guys, we’ve entered the future. Seriously, every time something amazing like this comes out, I feel like we’ve entered the future. 3D printers, anyone?

Puppy Bowl VIII: What Super Bowl Sunday is really all about

I LOVE the Puppy Bowl. I think it’s one of the most genius things Animal Planet has ever done. Honestly. If you haven’t watched the Puppy Bowl because you’re a diehard football fan, or your just haven’t ever seen it, it will change your life. Not really, but it’s the cutest thing in the entire world.

First, the puppies are on teams and run around a small “field” with a chew toy football trying to “score points” (run around like puppies and look cute). Sometimes there’s pee, I’m sure there’s been a poo or two, but that’s just part of the fun.

Then, at halftime, the most amazing thing ever happens: The Kitty Halftime show. Kittys are placed on the field with kitty-like toys, but they all look frightened and pissed off and basically don’t do anything but hiss at things. It’s so joyous!

The animals are all provided by animal shelters that deal in pet adoptions. So not only is the Puppy Bowl amazing, but it also promotes pet adoption to (hopefully) loving families. What’s not to love!!!

Activism at its finest: Susan G. Komen Foundation WILL fund Planned Parenthood

Photo via myhero.com

Way to go internet!!!!

Public outcry, from the announcement that the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation would stop funding Planned Parenthood due to bullshit excuses and alleged pressure from the far right, caused Komen to reverse their policy. They will continue funding Planned Parenthood in efforts to provide breast exams and women’s health services to women in need.

Kudos to the Komen Foundation for considering the facts and impact their donations have on the lives of hundreds of thousands of women in the United States. Considering the facts and changing their mind does not make them weak, it makes them human and reasonable. What we need now more than ever is reasonable people and leaders. Good for them.

You know what, this is some HUGE good coming from the internet and social networking. We CAN make a statement and make our voices heard when something so obviously isn’t right. Women’s health is NOT political.

As Facebook and Twitter are the biggest public platforms to spread information, we can use these tools to our benefit and to make ourselves collectively heard. Much like Facebook uses us for their benefit in selling our information and us as ‘products’ benefit to businesses marketing and advertising.

Good work, social networkers and people of the United States!

Amazing: Breakthrough in invisibility cloak, Harry Potter fans rejoice

WHAT the serious what!?

Soon we'll all look like floating heads. Also, screw diets! Photo via telegraph.co.uk

A breakthrough has been made in invisibility cloak technology. I know people, I know. HOLY FUCKING SHIT.

According to BBC, “Researchers have “cloaked” a three-dimensional object, making it invisible from all angles, for the first time. However, the demonstration works only for waves in the microwave region of the electromagnetic spectrum. It uses a shell of what are known as plasmonic materials; they present a “photo negative” of the object being cloaked, effectively cancelling it out.” Awesome. What a great beginning to cloakdom. Someday people, it will be ours.

Can you imagine, invisibility cloaks in actual life? People are gonna get into so much trouble, it’s gonna be hilarious.

Firstly, Harry Potter role-play will get even more realistic. Also, can you imagine the show “Cheaters” with invisibility cloaks? Knives coming out of nowhere, punches to the face from invisible sources and gun shots appearing out of nowhere. That sounds pretty dangerous actually.

Maybe monogamy will make a comeback simultaneously with the invention of the invisibility cloak. “I’m going to follow you, and if I catch you cheating, I’m going to murder you both horribly.” It’s what Jesus would have wanted.

Amazing: Bon Joviver

Oh my GOD. A-MA-ZINGLY funny, and surprisingly zen. If you’re into Bon Iver and/or Bon Jovi, you’ll love this video.

This is cool: OSTRICH

Amazing! This neat contraption is the OSTRICH, a hybrid sleeping bag-cushion office sleeper, perfect for taking power naps at work. There’s a spot for your head to slide in, as well as both of your hands so you can sleep with them near your face, as many people do when they sleep at night.

The innovative creators of the OSTRICH (cool name too) explain the inspiration behind their invention:

I'll take 4, please. Naps rule! Photo: Kawamura Ganjavian

“Working patterns are constantly evolving. We gradually spend more time in our working environments, and this in turn means that we often need to make work and rest fully compatible within the same space. Some cultures have assimilated this concept more naturally than others, but in general the workplace has rarely adapted to this new working-resting paradigm.

“OSTRICH offers a micro environment in which to take a warm and comfortable power nap at ease. It is neither a pillow nor a cushion, nor a bed, nor a garment, but a bit of each at the same time. Its soothing cave-like interior shelters and isolates our head and hands (mind, senses and body) for a few minutes, without needing to leave our desk.”

Beautiful. I am a huge fan of the power nap. Especially at a full-time job, where your focus is supposed to be constantly on your work. It’s impossible to concentrate for 8 straight hours on work (nobody does that anyways, even if it’s expected of them. Hello internet!?  Quick power naps help recharge the mind and body and create even more efficient, healthy workers.

What do you think? Amazing or awkward at work?

Amazing: 17 year old girl creates nanoparticle to possibly cure cancer

HO. LY. SHIT.

This is what doing your homework gets you. She’s a genius! 17-year-old Angela Zhang says that she “created a nanoparticle that’s kind of like the Swiss Army knife of cancer treatment in that it can detect cancer cells, eradicate the cancer cells and then monitor the treatment response. So the major aim of the project was to personalize cancer medicine.”

AMAZING. You go, Glen Coco.

Zhang said she was motivated by her great grandfather and grandfather who both died of cancer. I’m sure her family, as well as families around the world who have been touched by cancer in their families, are excited about this groundbreaking news.

THIS is why education is important! Who knows what students with the right resources can create and innovate?!

Zhang won $100,000 and is deciding between Stanford and Harvard for college. Work it, girl.
