Dr. Seuss made us more intelligent than we thought.
Thanks, Doc.

The Queen of England is celebrating her Diamond Jubilee. If you’re like me and thought this was some kind of British royalty celebration including diamonds and general jubilee-ness, you would be wrong my friend.
A lil bit o’ history for us lowly commoners (via wikipedia):
A Diamond Jubilee is a celebration held to mark a 60th anniversary in the case of a person (e.g. wedding anniversary, length of time a monarch has reigned) or a 75th anniversary in the case of an event. Traditionally, the diamond jubilee or anniversary of a person was also on the 75th anniversary. This changed when, due to national unrest when the British QueenVictoria following her withdrawal from public life after her husband‘s death, it was decided to bring the diamond jubilee forward to the 60th anniversary in 1897. The diamond jubilee has been held on the 60th anniversary ever since.
The Queen’s message on her 60th year as a reigning tour-de-force:

Today, as I mark 60 years as your Queen, I am writing to thank you for the wonderful support and encouragement that you have given to me and Prince Philip over these years and to tell you how deeply moved we have been to receive so many kind messages about the Diamond Jubilee.
In this special year, as I dedicate myself anew to your service, I hope we will all be reminded of the power of togetherness and the convening strength of family, friendship and good neighbourliness, examples of which I have been fortunate to see throughout my reign and which my family and I look forward to seeing in many forms as we travel throughout the United Kingdom and the wider Commonwealth.
I hope also that this Jubilee year will be a time to give thanks for the great advances that have been made since 1952 and to look forward to the future with clear head and warm heart as we join together in our celebrations.
I send my sincere good wishes to you all.
ELIZABETH R.
If you’ve seen the movie Drive with cutie Ryan Gosling, you may have been salivating at the soundtrack just as I was. Here’s the track, “Nightcall” that played wonderfully throughout the movie, featuring Lovefoxxx from the awesome Brazilian band Cansei de Ser Sexy or CSS (translated means ‘tired of being sexy’).
THIS SONG ROCKS. It takes you back to the 80s in the most awesome, synth-y and vocoder-y way.
“In this age of dangerous school bullying, you have sent an important message: If you think someone is weird, you should criticize them as much as possible.”

Madonna obsession starting now. LOVE HER. I feel guilty I ever doubted her, or thought she was being mean to Lady GaGa. Shame on me. Madonna, the one, the Queen, the only. Nobody does it like Madonna.

If you love Yelle, take a peek at this awesome mixtape called “Patinoire” released by Yelle producers/DJs GrandMarnier and Julien Tiné. They describe their sound as “Refreshing and emo at the same time, like the best orange juice you ever had in your life!” Enjoy!
01. Storm Queen – It goes on
02. Pollyester – Concierge d’amour (Rory Phillips Mix)
03. Todd Terje – Inspector norse
04. Bartellow and Ogris Debris – The thrill is gone (Ogris Debris rethrill)
05. Nguzunguzu – Got U (Canblaster & Berou Bonus Remix)
06. Nicki Minaj – Stupid hoe
07. Yelle – S’éteint le soleil (Ridu remix)
‘Patinoire’ means ‘skating rink’ in French. So, if winter is being cold where you are, this is the perfect mix for the rink.

At a male dominated sport, I gotta say: The ladies totally stole the entire show. Madonna had amazing energy at her Super Bowl halftime show while she played Vogue, Music, Give Me All Your Luvin’, Party Rock Anthem/I’m Sexy and I Know It, Open Your Heart and Like a Prayer with LMFAO, Nicki Minaj, M.I.A. and Cee-Lo Green.
That was DEFINITELY the best Super Bowl performance of all time. Second to Britney, N*SYNC and Aerosmith. Holla!
Go Madonna!!
PS I hear M.I.A. flipped off the camera. Folks, that’s like the least offensive thing she could have ever done on national television. Is anyone even offended by the middle finger anymore? Compared to Janet Jackson’s boob, that was nothing.

I LOVE the Puppy Bowl. I think it’s one of the most genius things Animal Planet has ever done. Honestly. If you haven’t watched the Puppy Bowl because you’re a diehard football fan, or your just haven’t ever seen it, it will change your life. Not really, but it’s the cutest thing in the entire world.
First, the puppies are on teams and run around a small “field” with a chew toy football trying to “score points” (run around like puppies and look cute). Sometimes there’s pee, I’m sure there’s been a poo or two, but that’s just part of the fun.
Then, at halftime, the most amazing thing ever happens: The Kitty Halftime show. Kittys are placed on the field with kitty-like toys, but they all look frightened and pissed off and basically don’t do anything but hiss at things. It’s so joyous!
The animals are all provided by animal shelters that deal in pet adoptions. So not only is the Puppy Bowl amazing, but it also promotes pet adoption to (hopefully) loving families. What’s not to love!!!
